Newborn baby boy found abandoned on park bench in Phuket

Phuket-

A newborn baby boy was found abandoned on a park bench in the Patong area of Phuket early this morning, Wednesday, September 23, 2020.

Pol Lt. Col. Sarit Butnongsaeng, deputy chief of the Patong police, stated the child was found wrapped in a blanket in a black bag on a park bench under a palm tree near a bank in the Patong area. The child appeared to be about seven days old, he added, based on information given from medical staff.

A passerby who found the baby, Ratchanee Berit, 68, said she was out for a morning jog when she heard crying and discovered the child. She immediately called police for assistance.

CCTV footage seems to show a young woman dumping the bag with the child on the bench around 6:00 AM this morning and then leaving.

Lt. Col. Sarit said police are investigating hospitals in the area to determine what children were born in the last week and in an attempt to hunt down the woman who left the child on the park bench.
