More than 120 Thai and foreign business investors participated in a conference today, September 24, at Pullman Pattaya Hotel G, regarding the construction of the Pattaya Green line monorail project and the development of the local public transportation system.
The seminar was hosted by the Pattaya authority, led by Pattaya deputy chief Pramote Tubtim, and was aimed to officially inform and exchange ideas on feasibility studies, environmental impacts, and designs for the development of a monorail transport system.
The development process of the public transportation system is divided into 3 phases with short-term, medium-term, and long-term plans, starting from 2020 to 2036. The entire project includes 19 routes; 4 main routes and 15 auxiliary routes, according to the deputy chief.
The Green Line monorail is the kick-off project and consists of 13 sky-train stations from the Pattaya high-speed railway station to Bali Hai pier. The construction will involve traffic islands on the city roads in order to construct maintenance stations, train parking stations, and transit-oriented development (TOD). Speaking after, Pongthawee Lertmanyawit, the proponent of the monorail, told the Associated Press that the conference had drawn much attention to the private sectors and had received positive feedback so far.
According to the previous project announcement last month, the Pattaya monorail construction is expected to start in 2024 and is believed to bring passengers between many top attractions and places in the Pattaya area such as shopping malls, Walking Street, Bali Hai Pier, and other tourist attractions.
