The following is a recap from today’s special Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) Conference held by Spokesperson Natapanu Nopakun in Bangkok today at Noon. This is the first major conference they have held in about a month:
A meeting of the CCSA chaired by Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan O’Cha was held this morning prior to the conference.
The Prime Minister stressed in a statement at the meeting this morning that masks are still important and should be used throughout Thailand, despite the lack of officially found locally spread cases.
The spokesperson stressed that although some cases, like a DJ and football player, were found with Covid-19 in the country there was no further escalation of the virus in the country. They did not specify on where they believed the case came from.
Twenty two new confirmed imported cases were found today, all from overseas and found in state quarantine. There was no risk to the general public. The majority were Thai people from South Sudan as part of a UN mission involving engineering.
Thailand has had a total of 3,535 cases. 3,369 have completely recovered and there have been a total of 59 deaths since the start of the Covid-19 outbreak in January.
Natapanu stressed that the situation with Covid-19 is still very dire around the world, including in Myanmar, a neighbor of Thailand. Thailand will be assisting Myanmar with medical equipment for their current fight with Covid-19. You can read more about that situation by clicking here.
The Special Tourist Visa has been officially approved by the CCSA for long-stay tourists for up to nine months. Details on how to apply for the special tourist visa can be found by clicking here from our detailed previous article. However, specific information and some details are not yet one hundred percent complete such as if/what countries will be able to visit.
Foreign athletes are now approved for coming in for controlled competitions, with proper testing and embassy/consulate approval.
APEC card holders can now enter Thailand upon approval if they have low risk of Covid-19 and have
Special Tourist Visa holders can enter the country from October 8, with approval and all of the proper paperwork completed from the above article.
The Cabinet will address other visa related issues, likely for those on amnesty, tomorrow. (It is NOT officially approved yet and he did not specifically speak to the visa amnesty or news about extensions).
The Thai Government will be almost surely extending the emergency decree until the end of October, however will not be official until tomorrow at the Thai Cabinet meeting. This is due to the virus situation worldwide. We will have more on this later.
The CCSA will be handing over the main duty of recovering the economy to the Center for Post Covid Economy, while the CCSA focuses on the health and repatriation aspect while the CPCE focuses on aspects regarding the economy, including tourism.
