Two school buses and a school building burst into flames after electric bus battery explosion at international school in Bangkok

Bangkok –

Two school buses and a school building of an international school in Bangkok caught on fire today after one of an electric vehicle’s batteries suddenly exploded while being left charging.

Thong Lor Police and firefighters rushed to the scene after being alerted of the fire incident at the Kobato International Kindergarten in Soi Sukhumvit 38 today, September 2, around 12:30 PM.

Two school buses, one being reportedly the electric bus and the other was diesel, were already destroyed by the flames while the two-story building where the vehicles were parked was also seen going up in flames which began to damage the entire school.

Fire officials spent some time to eventually extinguish the fire. No deaths and injuries were reported from the incident.

According to a school bus driver, he was charging the electric school bus before leaving the parking spot for a while. He rushed back to the bus shortly after hearing an explosion and found the flames starting to break out all over his vehicle.

The driver then decided to call relevant officials after failing to stop the fire which had reportedly quickly spread onto the second bus parked nearby and the school building. Bangkok police are now examining total damage and questioning witnesses to search for the actual cause of the fire.

A total estimate of the damages from the fire has not been calculated as of this evening, notes TPN national.
