Eddie Van Halen dead at 65 from throat cancer

Legendary rocker Eddie Van Halen has died at the age of 65 after a long battle with throat cancer, stated his son on Twitter early this morning Thailand time.

My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop,” his son wrote on social media.

The rocker had been battling throat cancer for many years and reportedly passed away in Santa Monica, California surrounded by family and friends.

Van Halen was originally formed in the early 1970’s by Eddie and his brother Alex, the drummer. They were entered into the rock and roll Hall of Fame in 2007.

Tributes to the rocker have been dominating social media since the announcement was made just over an hour ago.

Eddie had been battling throat cancer for many, many years after receiving treatment first for tongue cancer in the year 2000. In the past year he had been in and out of the hospital on a regular basis.
