Thai Railway authorities to examine and install train barriers at train crossings nationwide following major collision in Chachoengsao earlier this week

Chachoengsao –

The Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police has ordered the Thai authorities to examine and install train barriers at train crossings nationwide and to ensure justice for victims who were killed in a tragic bus-train collision in Chachoengsao on October 11.

Royal Thai Police spokesman Yingyot Thepchamnon had expressed condolences on behalf of the Royal Thai Police to the deceased and injured civilians in a major fatal accident between a passenger bus and a cargo train.

He has also ordered the Deputy Chief of Police from the Chachoengsao Province to be personally responsible for conducting civil case investigations related to the incident, especially for all victims and related parties.

Chief district officer Prathuang Yukasem further told the Associated Press that the train crossing where the incident occurred has poor general visibility since it is hilly and cluttered with large trees and vines.
Prathuang stressed that the district authorities had demanded installation of a train barrier in the area many years ago but, according to the authorities, the barrier would obstruct a village entrance and their foot traffic.

The Railway Police, led by Police Major General Amnat Triipot, will be in talks for joint cooperation with the Department of Rail Transport and the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) in order to come up with potential future prevention measures.

Thailand’s Department of Transportation has also called an urgent meeting with relevant authorities to discuss measures to prevent road accidents and the village entrance as well as design preparation guidelines for emergency situations and accidents that might reoccur in the future.
