Pro-democracy activist ‘Pai Dao Din’ denied bail by Criminal Court after arrested gathering at the Democracy Monument yesterday, now detained at Bangkok prison

Bangkok –

The Bangkok Criminal Court has denied bail to all twenty pro-democracy activists, including Jatupat “Pai Dao Din” Boonpattararaksa and singer/songwriter Chaiamorn “Ammy” Kaewwiboonpan as they are charged for their alleged acts of provocation during a pre-gathering protest at the Democracy Monument on Tuesday, October 13.

Pai Dao Din, Ammy, and nineteen fellow pro-democracy activists were taken away by the police reinforcements by the Bangkok authorities who claimed that they were being uncooperative and refused to negotiate while officials were emptying the area for a Royal motorcade.

The protesters were facing alleged several charges, particularly for obstructing law enforcement officers, splashing colored paint on law enforcement officers and public places and violating several restrictions regarding the Emergency Decree. Only one young rally-goer was released earlier yesterday as he is a student protester whose age is not yet above 18.

Pai Dao Din was taken to the Criminal Court yesterday morning following a detention request from the Samranrat Police Station. The court had denied bail and temporary bail as according to authorities his actions could provoke chaos and confrontations during the political uprising, according to the Court.

He was taken to and detained at the Bangkok prison around 6:40 PM yesterday.

The Criminal Court has also denied bail to the rest of the demonstrators later yesterday evening while the MPs of the Move Forward Party are under negotiation to bail them out. Several prominent activist groups such as Thai Lawyers for Human Rights and Human Rights Watch have also demanded the protesters unconditional release.
