Seven police officers deployed at pro-democracy protests tested for drug use after videos and pictures of meth found in police van went viral overnight

Bangkok –

Seven police officers who were deployed at a pro-democracy protest yesterday were taken for a drug test following videos and pictures of bags of methamphetamine and equipment that were allegedly found in a police van parked at the Kiakkai intersection went viral throughout the evening.

A group of authorities from the Royal Thai Police 8 Division 1 was traveling to the protest scene from the Bukkhalo police station and had abandoned their vehicles after the pro-democracy protesters passed through their barricades to the Parliament.

Some protesters entered their buses and allegedly discovered bags of crystal methamphetamine and drug equipment inside one of the buses. An account had posted a video clip of the exposure on social media before one of the members of parliament had requested the authorities to investigate.

All of the authorities inside the vehicle in question then were taken to Vajira Hospital for a urine drug test. Their results proved negative for addictive substances, according to the statement from Bangpo Police Station today.

They will be interrogated at the police station regarding whether the tested officers knew or were involved with what had appeared in social media or not.

Moreover, the police claimed that the government van in question was vandalized and some of the valuable belongings inside the vehicle had gone missing, including expensive cell phones. The destroyed vehicle will be sent to related departments for examination for evidence while Bangpo Police Station will continue to inspect the surveillance cameras in the nearby area to identify those who reportedly destroyed and vandalized the government properties.
