The Chiang Rai COVID- 19 center today (December 5th) has confirmed two more domestic cases involving patients who skipped quarantine by entering Thailand via natural borders in Mae Sai illegally and also reportedly visited a nightclub in Mae Sai.
The Chiang Rai Public Health Office Director Doctor Totthep Boonthong reported that the 10th and 11th recent domestic confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Chiang Rai are both female and aged 25.
They worked at a hotel in Tachileik in Myanmar. They smuggled into Thailand on November 28th according to their statements to Thai authorities.
They also admitted they went to a nightclub in Maesot and a market and did not self isolate despite being aware they were potentially exposed to Covid-19.
They started to have symptoms on November 29th before contacting medical officials for a Covid-19 test at the beginning of this month.
Doctor Totthep noted, “However they have only made contact in low risk small groups and despite going to public places had limited high risk contacts.”
“In a total of eleven confirmed cases in Chiang Rai in this current situation, five of them had entered at local state quarantines at the border and were not exposed to the public.” He added.
Hundreds of tests are being done daily on the public and contacts of the confirmed cases so far, with no positive results.
