The Thai Cabinet announced eight additional holidays in 2021 nationwide, including four regional holidays, Deputy Government Spokeswoman told the Associated Press today, December 29th.
According to spokeswoman Ratchada Thanadirek, the four national holidays are scheduled on February 12th (additional Chinese New Year day), April 12th (additional Songkran festival day), July 27th (substitution Day for Buddhist Lent Day), and September 24th (Mahidol Day).
The regional holidays are set on March 26th for the Northern region (Wai Phra That Day), May 10th for the Northeastern region (Bun Bang Fai festival), October 6th for the Southern region (Sart month ten), and October 21st for the Central region (The End of Buddhist Lent Day).
Additionally, the substitution for Chulalongkorn Day is postponed to October 22nd. All of the announced holidays are limited to the year 2021.
The special additional holidays are planned in order to promote and stimulate domestic tourism and the economy as local tourists are likely to go shopping and travel during the long weekends, the spokeswoman claimed.
