The Thai cabinet yesterday, December 29th, has approved online registration for undocumented migrant workers from Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar to register for legal employment as part of Covid-19 control measures.
The initial regulation draft will be issued by the Ministry of Interior And the Ministry of Labor to allow undocumented workers to stay in the Kingdom and work legally in a special case under the second outbreak of Covid-19 Coronavirus in Thailand.
Prior to the registration, all workers must be employed within 90 days. If not, they are responsible for the application fee of 7,200 baht. The workers can register via the Labour Ministry’s Department of Employment online platform from January 15th to February 13th, 2021.
Health screening for Covid-19 and other diseases as well as two-year health insurance are required after the registration as a part of employment regulations. Workers must submit work-permit applications before September 13, 2021, and are required to register as resident non-Thai nationals by November 12, 2021.
Applications must also include children of the workers, who will also be screened and receive health insurance for at least two years.
Trisulee Trisaranakul, a deputy government spokesperson, stated: “This regulation will also extend the period for migrant workers to stay in Thailand for another 2 years after registration, from January 15 to February 13, 2021, and will expire on February 16, 2023. Those undocumented workers who do not register within a certain period of time will be taken for definitive action, according to the Prime Minister.”
“The registration is a good opportunity for entrepreneurs and foreign workers to legally put their undocumented workers into the system.”
