Rayong announces six cases of Covid-19, focus on one main village area, asks public to continue to cooperate

The Rayong Governor and Rayong Provincial Communicable Disease Committee held a press conference this afternoon to discuss the current situation with Covid-19 in the province which is currently designated as highly controlled and under a number of restrictions and measures.

Officials stated that only six cases were discovered today continuing an overall lowering trend of cases since a large number of infections, most linked to alleged illegal gambling, broke out in the province. This in turn spread to other Eastern provinces in the area resulting in Chonburi, Rayong, Trat, and Chanthaburi all being designated as “highly controlled provinces.”

All four have reported significant improvements in case reduction in the past two weeks and officials have said that they will continue to monitor the situation over the next two weeks and if things continue to improve it is possible (but not guaranteed) restrictions such as entertainment venue closures, gym closures, restrictions on travel and other measures “may” be loosened or lifted. However, for certain restrictions to be lifted, such as travel measures, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) will also need to give their approval.

Rayong officials also said that the current area of concern was the Ban Map Le Rachagon village located in the Chakphong sub-district of the Klaeng district. The six patients, minus one, were all in mild or asymptomatic condition. They are all linked to either prior gambling-related clusters or a Si Racha related brewery cluster with the exception of a five-month-old girl whose source is under investigation and may have been a hospital staff member after a recent visit to a hospital.

Hospital staff at the venue in question are being tested, added the Rayong Health Department.
