More than 100 Thai and foreign customers were caught at a bar/restaurant in Koh Phangan of Surat Thani province in the early hours of this morning, January 27th, for allegedly staging a drinking and dancing party and violating the Emergency Decree to prevent the spread of Covid-19 Coronavirus, according to Surat Thani Provincial Police
A team of more than 50 Surat Thani Provincial Police raided a mountain-top restaurant at 2:00 A.M. this morning and according to their statements observed a large group of customers who allegedly were dancing to loud music without performing social distancing, mask-wearing, and other strict health measures set by the emergency decree in Thailand that sets Covid-19 regulations.
About 110 guests, 89 foreigners, and 23 Thai nationals, along with a restaurant owner and a party host were caught while some had managed to escape the arrest during the raid. A batch of alcoholic beverages discovered at the scene was seized as evidence for further investigation.
According to the initial investigation, the host, Pongdarun Lim-O-Chakul, 40, reportedly confessed that he was organizing the party and admitted to all charges the police have accused of him. This was according to Surat Thani police.
The captured guests were initially charged for allegedly violating the Emergency Decree to prevent the spread of Covid-19 Coronavirus by participating in mass gatherings of more than five people.
Both the restaurant owner and host were charged for violating the Emergency Decree to prevent the spread of Covid-19 Coronavirus by participating in mass gatherings of more than five people and for violating the Surat Thani emergency order to prevent the spread of COvid-19 Coronavirus by opening a restaurant and providing/drinking alcoholic beverages at the restaurant. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty by a court of law, notes The Pattaya News.
