Bangkok –

Thailand’s Criminal Court today, February 8th, has overturned an earlier order of taking down social media platforms of former Future Forward oppositional party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit after broadcasting a Facebook live session that appeared to be questioning the government’s Covid-19 vaccination strategy.

The order was requested for the court’s consideration by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society in late January. According to the accusation, Thanathon had falsely criticized the work of the government in providing the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccination for Thai people.

The former political leader, according to the Ministry, had also discredited the Crown Property Bureau under the king’s personal control, violating Section 112 of the Criminal Code.

The Court had finalized its decision, examining based on both the law and the facts in detail, and read its statement this afternoon. The objection against the charge has been made, stating that Thanathorn has slightly provided information on Crown Property Bureau’s shareholders and the government which are not the main discussion of the presentation.

The accusation claimed by the Digital Ministry was unable to be thoroughly clarified and proven to be affecting the country’s stability. Therefore, the court ordered to lift the suspension of the publication of the certain clip as well as Thanathorn’s social media platforms.
