The Thai parliament today, February 16th, is hosting a censure debate for four consecutive days against several government-ruling political members, including the Prime Minister, following government opposition MPs’ requests in January.

The group of MPs from six oppositional parties submitted a censure debate request on January 25th to accuse Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha and nine other Cabinet members for, according to the opposition MPs, their slow response and mishandling the Covid-19 Coronavirus situation that has led to national economic disruption.

The four-day-long debate will also highlight the alleged failure in providing unequal and insufficient governmental financial funds to Thai people nationwide who have been significantly affected during the year of the pandemic.

Apart from the Prime Minister, the other eight ministers being targeted are Deputy PM Prawit Wongsuwan, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit, Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin, Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda, Deputy Interior Minister Nipon Bunyamanee, Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan, Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob and Deputy Agriculture Minister Thammanat Promprao.

The debate must be completed within four days and will be concluded on Saturday, February 20th, according to House Speaker Chuan Leekpai.
