RECAP: Thailand reports 142 domestic infections among 150 new Covid-19 cases today, easing of Covid-19 control restrictions to be discussed next Monday

National –

Thailand discovered 142 domestic infections among 150 new Covid-19 Coronavirus daily cases in the past 24 hours, CCSA (Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration) Deputy spokesperson Apisamai Srirangsan announced this morning, February 18th.

About 104 domestic cases were reported in Samut Sakhon with 62 and Pathum Thani with 42 from a proactive approach in local communities, particularly in major factories, fresh markets, and migrant workers’ dormitories. Most of them are migrant workers from Myanmar. All of them are now at provincial state quarantines and field hospitals under the supervision of public health authorities.

The other 38 infections were hospital/walk-in cases that were found in Samut Sakhon with 26, Bangkok with 5, Pathum Thani with 3, Maha Sarakham with 1, Ayutthaya with 1, Tak with 1, and Nakhon Pathom with 1. All of the patients are now isolated at local and field hospitals for treatment.

Meanwhile, Maha Sarakham provincial health authorities also reported the first medical doctor in Thailand who passed away from Covid-19 Coronavirus in the early hours of Thursday.

Physician Panya Hanphanitphan proved positive for the deadly virus in February from an infected patient who sought medical assistance at his clinic during the new virus outbreak in Mahasarakham in late January.

The doctor was admitted to a local hospital, however, his conditions became worse before he was pronounced dead at about 1:30 AM on Thursday, marking the 83rd death in the country since the Covid-19 pandemic.

As the situation of the outbreak is improving, the Public Health Ministry is planning to propose the easing of Covid-19 control restrictions at the CCSA meeting with a special committee next Monday. This would bring reduced restrictions to many areas, if approved, including Bangkok. We note that any proposals for reduced restrictions could be strengthened by the provincial governors if they chose. If the proposal is approved, the new Covid-19 zoning readjustment will be categorized as follows:

DARK RED (Maximum and Strict Controlled Area): Samut Sakhon

ORANGE (Controlled Area): Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Samut Songkhram, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Ratchaburi, and Tak

YELLOW (High Survey Area): Kanchanaburi, Suphanburi, Ayutthaya, Saraburi, Nakhon Nayok, Chachoengsao, Phetchaburi, Ranong, Chonburi, Rayong, Chumphon, Songkhla, Narathiwat, and Yala

GREEN (Survey Area): The remaining 54 provinces
