Group of Thailand’s biggest hospitality and tourism business owners launches ‘Open Thailand Safely’ campaign, seeking to reopen country to vaccinated foreign tourists without quarantine by July 1st

National –

More than 15 major international tourism companies and hospitality leaders have launched a campaign titled ‘Open Thailand Safely’, seeking to reopen the country’s borders from July 1st, 2021.

The petition seeks the Thai government to welcome vaccinated travelers, without quarantine requirements, from Europe, the United States, and other Thailand tourism source markets as more than 210 million people worldwide have already received at least one jab of one of the Covid-19 vaccines.

Phuket, Thailand – April 21, 2020: Patong Beach in Phuket, Thailand. The effect of COVID-19, hotels, shops and various services being temporarily closed due to the outbreak of Covid 19(Corona virus).

The ‘Open Thailand Safely’ campaign was pledged with the full support of 17 major companies, namely Minor International, YAANA Ventures, Khiri Travel, Asian Trails, Smiling Albino, Go Vacation, Destination Asia, I Asia Group, EXO Travel, Cape and Kantary Hotels, Capella Bangkok, Skål International Thailand, QUO Global, Experience Mekong Collection, Portier Technologies, ScottAsia Communications, and Diethelm Travel.

The campaign’s statement also claims that as Thailand is starting to vaccinate its healthcare workers and medical front-liners, now is the time to announce a firm date to reopen its borders in order to give confidence to international travelers and encourage them to book a trip to Thailand.

Thailand may lose a large number of tourists in 2021 as travelers will make plans for alternative destinations, if the country does not make a firm commitment to the reopening now, according to the statement.

July 1st marks the irreversible date to reopen for several probable reasons, according to the campaign, as follows:

  1. July 1st gives time to Thai medical authorities to vaccinate both front line staff in hospitality settings in Thailand and vulnerable citizens around the country, as desired
  2. July 1st gives international travelers time to make travel plans and bookings
  3. July 1st gives time to airlines, hotels, tour operators, and others to start marketing and sales, and get ready for tourism operations to commence

The ‘Open Thailand Safely’ campaign is open to anyone in Thailand or around the world who would like to see the country reopen on the website openthailandsafely.org.
