Bangkok –
Bangkok police have arrested a man who was reportedly found carrying 18 explosive devices and wandering around the Pathumwan intersection of downtown Bangkok since this morning, March 5.
As of 8:45 AM., Pathumwan patrol police noticed the suspicious man walking around the area. He was reportedly mumbling and talking incoherently when the police were trying to approach and question him.
A total of 18 possible life-threatening pipebombs were discovered when the police began the initial examination. A single explosive device can destroy in a radius of 3-5 meters, according to the EOD police.
A preliminary examination from the EOD police also revealed that black soil, presumably to be low-pressure gunpowder, was contained in the devices. More handmade weapons, including gun-like objects, firearms, and bullets, were also packed with gunpowder, ready to be fired.
The 43-year-old suspect, whose name was later revealed as Phichet Khunkamhaeng, was immediately taken to the Pathumwan police station. He was likely to be mentally deranged and was allegedly having speaking difficulties, according to the police.
The authorities are now deeply investigating the case in order to narrow down his cause and purpose of carrying possible bombs into the city.
