Satun –
The incident became widely popular on social media after the private was captured swimming to save four cats after being left on a sinking fishing boat and taking them back to a military base.
Speaking after, the soldier said that he was ordered to monitor a fishing boat that had accidentally caught on fire. All of the eight passengers were safely rescued and were brought up to the shore as Thasapon heard a group of cats whining from the watercraft.
He decided to swim back and forth several times in order to manage to bring all of the frightening animals out of the sinking boat. All of them were then taken to a vet for a checkup before staying at his military base in the La-Ngu District for medical care and waiting for their owner.
The 23-year-old soldier admitted that what he did was only to save lives and never expected to have so much positive feedback and praise from everyone on social media.
Admiral Choengchai Chompheeng, Commander of the Third Navy Region, today presented the heroic soldier with an honor certificate, admiring Thasapon and his good deeds for volunteering to swim tirelessly to help the poor kittens.
