RECAP: Thailand finds 74 domestic infections among 78 new Covid-19 daily cases with one additional death in past 24 hours

Thailand discovered 74 domestic infections among a total of 78 new Covid-19 Coronavirus daily cases with one additional death in the past 24 hours, CCSA assistant spokesperson Apisamai Srirangsan announced this morning.

The country’s 87th Covid-19 death was an 88-year-old Thai man from Pathum Thani whose family members were reportedly working at a high-risk Pornpat market but none of them proved positive for the deadly virus. He had underlying diseases of high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, and a brain tumor.

The deceased first experienced suspicious symptoms of coughing, high fever, and breathing difficulties on February 12th. He sought a Covid-19 test at a local hospital and tested positive for the virus on the 15th. His condition became worse as he was found with septicemia and liver failure on the 25th. He was pronounced dead on March 13th.

Regarding today’s domestic cases, the majority of 59 infections were reported during proactive case finding in local communities, particularly in local markets, factories, and migrant worker’s dormitories in Samut Sakhon with 36, Bangkok with 22, and Pathum Thani with 1. Most of them are Myanmar migrant workers. All of them are being isolated at local and field hospitals under the supervision of public health authorities.

The proactive case testing in Bangkhae markets and nearby areas are ongoing with the efforts of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. Several mobile COVID-19 testing vehicles will be deployed at a public park beside The Mall Bangkhae today to test local people.

The other 15 infections were walk-in/hospital cases, including contact tracing, that were found in Tak with 9, Samut Sakhon with 3, Bangkok with 1, Samut Prakan with 1, and Suphanburi with 1. Most of them are Thai nationals and asymptomatic. All of the patients are now isolated at local and field hospitals for treatment.

As of today, 80 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 27,005 cases with 26,234 recoveries and a total of 87 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
