RECAP: Thailand discovers 242 domestic infections among 248 new Covid-19 daily cases with one additional death in past 24 hours

Thailand discovered 242 domestic infections among a total of 248 new Covid-19 Coronavirus daily cases with one additional death in the past 24 hours, CCSA assistant spokesperson Apisamai Srirangsan announced this morning, March 17th.

The majority of 163 local infections were reported during proactive case finding in local communities, particularly in local markets, factories, and migrant worker’s dormitories in Bangkok (from Bangkaen’s ‘Special Detention Centre’ (SDC)) with 68, Bangkok (from Bangkhae’s mobile testing units) with 86, Samut Sakhon with 7, Nonthaburi with 1, and Phetchaburi with 1. Most of them are being investigated by the Disease Control Department.

About six Bangkhae markets remained close for undergoing investigation. All of the market vendors, regular and nearby customers were required to seek Covid-19 test at mobile units.

The other 79 cases were walk-in/hospital cases, including contact tracing, that were found in Bangkok with 13, Ratchaburi 5, Songkhla with 2, Pathum Thani with 1, and Sisaket with 1. Most of them are Thai nationals and asymptomatic. All of the patients are now isolated at local and field hospitals for treatment.

As of today, 40 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 27,402 cases with 26,339 recoveries and a total of 88 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
