National –
Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today, March 25th, has approved the registration of Johnson & Johnson’s single-shot Covid-19 vaccine for local emergency use, marking the third vaccine manufacturer to be officially distributed in Thailand.
Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told reporters that the first lot of Johnson & Johnson vaccination is expected to arrive in Thailand in the fourth quarter of 2021 at a price of 10 USD per dose, which is in line with the World Health Organization’s approval of the Covid-19 vaccine regulated prices.
“The approval allows more vaccine options for Thai people. It also proves that the Thai government does not restrain other brands of vaccines,” Anutin stated.
However, the government does not see the need to immediately allocate funds to purchase Johnson & Johnson vaccine as the country’s own vaccine production base, Siam Biocide Company, has already been approved to produce about 200 million doses of AstraZeneca per year for national use.
The Minister added: “Vaccines will definitely reach everyone in Thailand. And if the distribution is going well, the government will consider reopening the country faster. The process is now in talks with some embassies in pairing potential countries.”
