“Thalufah Village” protest peacefully regroups at Government House this afternoon after Sunday’s dispersal, mocking cabinet group photos earlier today

Bangkok –

A number of pro-democracy protesters gathered in front of the Government House as of 2:00 PM. today, March 30th, to stage another “Thalufah Village” protest, in a response to what demonstrators called an unjust dispersal against a peaceful protest on Sunday.

Crowd control police and a long line of cargo containers were stationed at the protest site since noon to block the gathering protesters to approach the entrance towards the government house. A water cannon truck was also deployed near the site.

As Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha and cabinet ministers had their official photo taken at the government house earlier this morning due to a cabinet reshuffle, pro-democracy demonstrators then staged a mocking set of photos with similar settings, as the event was, as told by the protesters, the reason of Sunday’s crackdown.

As of 3:00 PM., the demonstrators started to place pictures of detained prominent protest leaders on several riot shields of the officers, who were lining up at the Chamai Maruchet Bridge. However, the police peeled them off as soon as the protesters moved back to the site.

A speech was also given by some protesters mainly to demand the Prime Minister to resign and to release all of the previously arrested protest leaders.

The protest was staged inches away from the riot police frontliners, however, the atmosphere remained peaceful with no confrontation with the police as the protestors lied down and flashed three-finger salutes in front of them to show a sign of non-violence.

The Pattaya News will keep up to date with the rally and provide more details as soon as we confirm new information regarding the protest.
