Japanese Ambassador to Thailand getting treatment for Covid-19

Bangkok, Thailand-

According to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs which made a post on their social media accounts this afternoon, April 4th, 2021, the Japanese Ambassador to Thailand has tested positive for Covid-19 in Thailand.

Nashida Kazuya, 60, is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bangkok, according to the short statement.

Further details of his condition, where he could have caught the virus, or other information were not given. It is possible the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration will address the case in tomorrow’s regularly scheduled press conference.

Mr. Kazuya has been the Ambassador to Thailand since December of 2019. He previously served as the Japanese ambassador to Iraq, along with other various roles. More information on him can be found here in English.

Several Japanese nationals were reported as positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus in both Chonburi and Bangkok today. It is unclear if one of those was counted as Mr. Kazuya. We will provide further details on his condition as they come in.
