The Thai cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha, today, April 20th, has agreed to extend the “Rao Chana” (We Win) economic stimulus campaign until June 30th in order to alleviate the financial downfall caused by the recent outbreak of Covid-19 Coronavirus.

The cabinet also approved the increase of the campaign budget for another 213 billion baht in handouts for 33.5 million people in the campaign extension, the Prime Minister told the Associated Press after the cabinet meeting this afternoon.

The Prime Minister told the associated Thai press “The ‘Rao Chana’ scheme will continue to provide 7,000 baht to Thai people affected by the Covid-19 crisis. The ‘M.33 Rao Rak Gun’ is also extended. Those who have already applied for the campaigns will now have more time to spend the money until June 30th.”

“The cabinet was also reconsidering the reimplementation of other completed stimulus campaigns, but we needed to consider if the budget was sufficient. However, we wanted to reassure the public that the other budgets were enough and we were trying our best to solve domestic economic problems as well as the unemployment problems.”

Additionally, it is also reported that the Ministry of Finance has proposed another round of ‘Half-Half’ projects in Phase 3. These projects allow discounts for businesses and support domestic tourism. However, the plan is still in discussion among the government authorities.
