Bangkok –
Thailand’s Fine Art Department on Monday, April 26th, has ordered the closure of all historical and ancient sites under its jurisdiction nationwide, effective until at least May 9th, in order to potentially help prevent the current outbreak of Covid-19 infections.
Director-general Prateep Pengtako said the closed sites included the National Library in Bangkok and national museums, historical sites requiring admission fees, national archives in Bangkok and other provinces, and cultural heritage learning sites under the supervision of the Department across the country.
Filming at ancient sites which had received prior permission is allowed, according to his statement. However, the number of the film crew must be limited to 10 people and they must strictly comply with health measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
The Fine Art Department also ordered 75 percent of its staff to work from home and conduct online meetings instead. If necessary, only 20 people are allowed to conduct an offline conference and must perform social distancing at all times.
