RECAP: Thailand finds 2,107 confirmed Covid-19 domestic infections with 15 additional deaths with underlying conditions in past 24 hours

Thailand discovered 2,107 domestic infections among a total of 2,112 new, confirmed Covid-19 cases with 15 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, CCSA assistant spokesperson Apisamai Srirangsan announced this morning, May 5th.

The fatalities were 8 men and 7 women from Bangkok (4), Nonthaburi (2), Sukhothai (2), Pathum Thani (1), Rayong (1), Yala (1), Ayutthaya (1), Prachuap Khiri Khan (1), Nakhon Panom (1), and Nakhon Pathom (1). The age range was between 50 and 86 years old.

Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, hyperlipidemia, obesity, chronic lung disease, and scleroderma. Four of them refused to expose their health conditions.

Regarding domestic infections, the first group of 789 local infections was discovered in Bangkok. 17 of them were reportedly connected to entertainment venues, 43 were from community markets and villages, 328 were from being in close contact with confirmed infected patients, and the other 401 infections were connected to other risky places. Other risky places are generally those such as private house parties, drinking circles, workplaces without sufficient social distancing measures like some construction or factories, densely packed communities like migrant workers camps, crowded markets or temples, and similar locations.

The second group includes 587 cases that were reported in Bangkok’s vicinity. Eight of them were reportedly connected to entertainment venues, 19 were from community markets and villages, 358 were from being close contact with confirmed infected patients, and the other 202 cases were connected to other risky places.

The last group includes 731 domestic infections that were found in other provinces. Two of them were connected to entertainment venues, 24 were from community markets and villages, 448 were from being in close contact with confirmed infected patients, and 257 of them were connected to other risky places. The majority of the group was discovered in Nonthaburi with 249, followed by Samut Prakan with 246 (mostly in a factory), Chonburi with 110, and Surat Thani with 65.

As of today, 1,886 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 74,900 cases with 44,360 recoveries and a total of 318 deaths since the start of the pandemic. About 44,493 people received their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccination and another 29,965 people received their second shot yesterday, marking a total number of 1,573,075 vaccinated people in Thailand who have received at least one dose of a vaccine.
