The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has warned of thunderstorms in Thailand, particularly in Upper Thailand, over three consecutive days, from May 5th to the 7th.
Thunderstorms with gusty winds and hail are also forecast in Northern and Northeastern Thailand as a high-pressure system from China has extended to Upper Thailand and the South China Sea. Isolated heavy rains are also possible in the area.
The southerly and the southeasterly winds also bring the moisture from the South China Sea to the lower North, the Northeast, and the Central regions including Bangkok and its vicinity, causing abundant rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas as well as thunderstorms in several areas.
The southeasterly and the easterly wind also prevails across the areas with scattered thundershowers in the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea. Isolated heavy rains are expected throughout the week with heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas.
During 5-7 May, people in upper Thailand should beware of the severe conditions by avoiding outdoor places, big trees, unsecured buildings, and large billboards. The Northern region should beware of flash floods. Farmers should prepare for crop damage.
