A wanted American fugitive suspect was arrested this afternoon, May 6th, in Chiang Mai for allegedly killing his Thai two-month pregnant wife and brutally dumping her in an abandoned field in a garbage bin in Nan province last Monday, May 3rd.
Jason Balzer, 32, was wanted by the Nan police after vanishing from his residence when the body of his 32-year-old wife, Pitchaporn Kidchob, was discovered wrapped in a blanket in a garbage bin by the local police.
According to Pitchaporn’s mother, Anong Tanya, 52, her daughter lived with a foreign husband and was two months pregnant. Pitchaporn allegedly became unreachable since Sunday afternoon, May 2nd. The concerned mother then arrived at her daughter’s house the next morning, May 3rd, but only found her foreign son-in-law. Anong stated this was very unusual for her daughter not to contact her on a daily basis or respond to messages or phone numbers
When being asked about Pitchaporn, Jason allegedly ignored the question, giving a short response in English that she didn’t understand, before getting onto a motorcycle and leaving the scene immediately despite an incoming storm, claiming he would be back later according to Anong. Anong then went inside the house and shockingly found a trace of bloodstains in the master bedroom, according to the mother’s statement to the police.
Nan police utilized police dogs to help find the missing woman.
The body of Pitchaporn was eventually discovered two kilometers away from her house on Wednesday, May 5th, after the mother reported her missing to Mueang Nan Police Station and a several-day investigation by Nan police.
A further investigation and review of CCTV by crime investigators in Nan hunting for Mr. Balzer revealed that the 32-year-old husband was seen heading to Chiang Mai province with his red motorcycle, which was reportedly bought shortly prior to the incident.
As of 6:00 PM. today, Jason was captured at a place in ​​Hang Dong district, Chiang Mai. He allegedly confessed to committing the murder of his wife and hiding her body in a garbage bin, reasoning that he was angry at her, presumably over a heated argument. However, this statement came from the Chiang Mai police and neither Jason nor any legal representation has released a statement on his behalf. The US embassy has reportedly been informed of the arrest of Mr. Balzer. It is unknown if Mr. Balzer has a lawyer at this time.
Mr. Balzer claimed he went to Chiang Mai, according to police, as there were many foreigners present in the area but none in Nan and it would be easier to blend in while he considered his options.
The Pattaya News noted that Jason Balzer had a criminal history in Colorado, the United States, in 2019 on suspicion of attempted murder on a woman with a gun.
He was arrested in Longmont city for alleged charges of second-degree murder, felony menacing, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, tampering with physical evidence, criminal mischief, obstruction of telephone use, aiming a firearm at a person, criminal tampering, and domestic violence.
Mr. Balzer was also arrested on December 30th, 2020, in Mead, Colorado with a whopping 79 firearms in his vehicle. Balzer was arrested for 74 violations of a protection order, two felony counts of possession of an illegal weapon, and two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon. Balzer paid bail and then evidently fled to Thailand shortly after.
He reportedly moved back to Thailand several months ago, having been here previously, with mixed reports on Thai media claiming that it was a violation of his bail conditions in the US for the firearms charges.
Mr. Balzer remains in custody as of tonight and is expected to be transferred to Nan province for a likely re-enactment of the crime, per Thai law. The incident has driven outrage among local villagers and residents in the province who are already asking for justice to be served to the suspect.
