Thailand discovered 1,622 domestic infections among a total of 1,630 new, confirmed Covid-19 cases with 22 additional deaths in the past 24 hours. Today’s number of confirmed cases has dropped to less than 2,000 in several weeks, CCSA assistant spokesperson Apisamai Srirangsan announced this morning, May 10th.
The fatalities were 9 men and 13 women from Bangkok (13), Chiang Mai (2), Pathum Thani (1), Suphan Buri (1), Rayong (1), Samut Prakan (1), Chachoengsao (1), Khon Kaen (1), and Maha Sarakam (1). The age range was between 30 and 92 years old.
Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, hyperlipidemia, obesity, cancer, chronic lung disease, and chronic liver disease. One of them was a bedridden patient. Another three refused to expose their health conditions.
Regarding domestic infections, the first group of 560 local infections was discovered in Bangkok. Two of them were reportedly connected to entertainment venues, 21 were from community markets and villages, 318 were from being in close contact with confirmed infected patients, and the other 224 infections were connected to other risky places. Other risky places are generally those such as private house parties, drinking circles, workplaces without sufficient social distancing measures like some construction or factories, densely packed communities like migrant workers camps, crowded markets or temples, and similar locations.
The second group includes 435 cases that were reported in Bangkok’s vicinity. 18 of them were reportedly connected to community markets and villages, 258 were from being close contact with confirmed infected patients, and the other 159 cases were connected to other risky places.
The last group includes 622 domestic infections that were found in other provinces. Five of them were connected to entertainment venues, 26 were from community markets and villages, 307 were from being in close contact with confirmed infected patients, and 284 of them were connected to other risky places. The majority of the group was discovered in Nonthaburi with 158, followed by Samut Prakan with 116 (mostly in a factory), Samut Sakhon with 85, Pathum Thani with 65, and Chonburi with 63.
As of today, 1,603 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 85,005 cases with 55,208 recoveries and a total of 421 deaths since the start of the pandemic. About 22,774 people received their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccination and another 43,400 people received their second shot yesterday, marking a total number of 1,809,894 vaccinated people in Thailand who have received at least one dose of a vaccine.
