Thailand reported 2,036 new Covid-19 domestic infections and 2,835 confirmed cases at two major prisons, cumulatively marking a total of 4,887 daily infections, with 32 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, CCSA spokesperson Taweesilp Visanuyothin announced this morning, May 13th.
The fatalities were 26 men and 6 women from Bangkok (17), Nakhon Ratchasima (3), Pathum Thani (2), Chiang Mai (2), Surin (1), Saraburi (1), Nakhon Pathom (1), Phayao (1), Nakhon Sri Thammarat (1), Surat Thani (1), Phetchaburi (1), and Phuket (1). The age range was between 38 and 93 years old.
Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, chronic kidney disease, heart disease, liver disease, chronic lung disease, cancer, and obesity. One of them was a bedridden patient. Another six refused to expose their health conditions.
Among the local 2,036 new domestic cases, excluding the cases at the prisons, the highest number of infections listed by provinces was discovered in Bangkok with 1,069, Samut Prakan with 194, Pathum Thani with 105, and Nonthaburi with 78. Chonburi reported its lowest cases of 56 infections since the third outbreak in April.
Following yesterday’s infection announcement of recently bailed pro-democracy activist Rung, the Department of Corrections had clarified that the authorities had been actively conducting a proactive testing approach towards inmates in Bangkok Remand Prison and Central Women’s Correctional Institution in Bangkok.
According to yesterday’s report, about 1,040 infections were discovered in the Women’s Correctional Institution and a total of 1,795 cases were at the Bangkok Remand Prison. All of which were being treated at a field hospital of the Medical Correctional Institution.
As of today, 1,572 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 93,794 cases with 60,615 recoveries and a total of 518 deaths since the start of the pandemic. About 22,753 people received their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccination and another 81,529 people received their second shot yesterday, marking a total number of 2,040,363 vaccinated people in Thailand who have received at least one dose of a vaccine.
