Phuket –
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) today, May 28th, confirmed to persist with its Phuket Sandbox project starting July 1st, allowing fully vaccinated foreign tourists to visit the island without quarantine before traveling to the rest of the country.
The letter below was sent out to the related tourism industry after the Center for Economic Situation Administration (CESA) conducted a meeting with the Prime Minister and approved the plan introduced by the TAT. The plan has been reaffirmed on schedule under the proposed conditions.
Foreign travelers who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 are welcomed to pay a visit to the island without quarantine. However, they must remain for at least 7 nights before traveling to other areas outside Phuket. It is estimated that the majority of local residents on the island and in Thailand will be vaccinated and have herd immunity by then. Many details about the plan still remain to be clarified but are starting to come together.
The island is ready to welcome the first group of vaccinated tourists in the next two months and aims to generate tourist traffic and domestic incomes in the third quarter onwards after the critical financial and tourism disruptions for nearly two years in the island, affecting Thailand as a whole.
