31 arrested at nightclub in Thonglor, Bangkok for allegedly violating Covid -19 measurements

Thonglor, Bangkok –

31 people have been arrested at a nightclub in Thonglor, Bangkok today (June 12th) during a raid by Thonglor police while allegedly drinking alcohol, socializing, and partying. Thonglor Police stated the group was violating Bangkok orders to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus.

Police arrived at the nightclub, named by police as the Black Club, in Thonglor Soi 7 last night, June 11th. 31 people were reportedly found gathering, socializing, and drinking alcohol with loud music. Of those 32, 18 are male and 13 are female.

Police are investigating to find the nightclub owner to face further legal action due to offences to Bangkok orders to fight Covid-19 and other relevant laws. The owner was reportedly not present during the raid and patrons at the club claimed not to know who the owner was.

Under current Covid-19 restrictions in Thailand all bars and clubs are ordered closed nationally by the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, or CCSA. Additionally, socializing and drinking in groups, even small ones, is forbidden in Bangkok and similar areas with high levels of Covid-19 infections. Alcohol sales are also forbidden at restaurants nationally and restaurants in Bangkok are only allowed to serve at 25 percent capacity with strict social distancing.

Fines for the violations, which fall under Thailand’s strict emergency decree laws, could range in the tens of thousands of baht to even jail time for customers and staff alike.
