TAT expects more than 600,000 Thai and foreign tourists to visit Phuket in “Phuket Sandbox” island reopening

Phuket –

The Tourism Authority of Thailand, Phuket has expected that more than 600,000 foreign and local tourists would travel to the island under the Phuket Sandbox program, launched on July 1st, which would generate about 15 billion baht income in the next three months.

TAT predicted about 129,000 foreign tourist arrivals and 500,000 Thais will visit Phuket between July and September, Phuket governor Narong Woonciew stated.

The governor said: “The Tourism Authority of Thailand estimated that the number of tourists coming to Phuket will be about 6,000 people during the first month of the island reopening. Approximately 500,000 Thais and 129,000 foreign tourists will visit Phuket from July to September.”

“There are 5 airlines that are arranged to fly to Phuket International Airport from abroad on the first day of the reopening. Most of that will come from European countries, carrying a group of potential tourists with high purchasing power. Most of the Thais will be those returning from overseas and choosing Phuket over a strict hotel quarantine.” The governor stated.

Despite the large number, Phuket authorities must conduct the health screenings against all arrivals strictly, according to the national standards issued by the Ministry of Public Health.

“All of the tourists must be conducted a Covid-19 test 3 times on the first day, on the 6th and the 12th day of arrival. They must stay in Phuket for 14 days before traveling to other provinces if confirmed to be Covid-19 free,” the governor concluded.
