Thailand –
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha posted an online statement today, June 20th, urging everyone to work collaboratively to proceed with the plan to reopen the country within 120 days.
According to his statement, the government goal of the country reopening within 120 days will be put into effect around October after the first dose of Covid-19 vaccines has been given to at least 50 million Thai residents.
The online status read: “I would like to repeat this once again to have all departments and everyone involved to work at their very best. Today, Thai people are fighting very hard for their survival, every day, every week is valuable to them, so let us all work together in order to complete the goal.
“There might be problems that could affect our work in the meantime, whether it is about delivering vaccines, new Covid-19 mutants, or other matters. But we all have to do our best to achieve our goals.”
The Prime Minister stressed over the weekend that the 120 day period was a preparation period and not a strict “countdown” and that high levels of vaccination, specifically 70%, would be required for provinces and places to open to foreign tourism. He also reminded people this was a step-by-step process, with Phuket leading the way next month.
