Thailand’s Ministry of Defense orders an additional Airbus C295 aircraft

Thailand-

The Thai Ministry of Defense has officially signed an order for an additional Airbus C295 aircraft, which once delivered will bring the Royal Thai Military’s total number of the aircraft to 3.

The order was announced today by Johan Pelissier, the Airbus Defense & Space Southeast Asia Director, who stated that the order showed that the Thai military expressed confidence in the Airbus aircraft.

The aircraft is set to be delivered in 2023, according to the announcement.

Mr. Pelissier also said that the C295 has become popular in Asia overall recently and that he feels it was a good opportunity for the Thai military.

Thai social media, however, notes TPN, was not as positive about the purchase, with some questioning why this needed to happen during the current Covid-19 pandemic. The exact cost of the aircraft was not released as part of the statement.

The Thai Military, however, in a brief statement pointed out that the aircraft has been used to transport medical staff and vaccines previously in Chiang Mai.
