Bangkok –

An online travel declaration form has been introduced for people traveling out of Bangkok, following the Thai authorities’ implementing stricter traveling measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 by supervising movement controls in the city.

People traveling out of Bangkok are now required to scan the BKK COVID-19 QR code at six major checkpoints via their smartphone to fill out and submit their travel declaration. The checkpoints were installed to prevent the movement of primarily construction and migrant workers during the closures of construction camps, a ban on dining-in at restaurants, and other control measures. TPN media notes it is unclear what options are available for those without smartphones or what penalities will take place for those who don’t utilize the QR codes.

The checkpoints can be found on (1.) Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in front of Don Muang Railway Station, (2.) on Suwinthawong road under the Mahanakhon intersection overpass, (3.) on Bang Na-Trat road in front of the Bangchak petrol station at kilometer 4.5, (4.) on Borommaratchachonnani under the Phutthamonthon Sai 3 intersection overpass, (5.) on Phetkasem road Soi 70 in front of the Nong Khaem District Office, and (6.) on Rama II road in front of the PTT petrol station in Bang Khun Thian district.

The digital travel declaration requires travelers to fill out their general personal information,  including their full name, national identification number/passport number, mobile phone number, gender, and nationality.

Travelers will also be asked for their purpose of travel, the necessity, and whether they will be returning to Bangkok after the trip.

After submission, travelers need to show the completed form to officials at screening checkpoints. Information provided will only be used for the purposes of a disease investigation, according to officials.

It is unclear how long these new “digital checkpoints” will be in place or how they will affect traffic. Officially, authorities have asked people to “stay home” and limit all travel at this time unless it is considered critically important.
