RECAP: Two fires at factories in Samut Prakan and Bangkok erupt simultaneously yesterday evening

A major fire at a plastic factory in the Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan had erupted again yesterday evening, July 6th, while another unrelated fire broke out at a perfume warehouse at the Lat Krabang industrial estate in Bangkok.

A major fire on Kingkaew road in the Bang Phli district erupted again at around 5:00 PM yesterday evening, 13 hours after being fully put out by the responding firefighters. Thick and black plumes of smoke were hovering into the sky. A sound of an explosion was also reportedly heard, according to local witnesses.

Local residents within about a kilometer radius along with reporters were told to leave the area. The firefighters spent about half an hour putting out the reignition. However, two officers were reportedly injured and were taken to a local hospital afterward.

Meanwhile, the secondary fire at Lat Krabang’s Floral Manufacturing Group also erupted an hour later, diverting a number of firefighters and volunteer first responders. A total number of 30 water trucks and 130 firefighters and volunteers were deployed at the burning site to extinguish the fire.

The officials spent nearly three hours hosing down the fire to prevent an explosion as the factory also reportedly contained 200 liters of alcohol substances. Fortunately, the blaze was reportedly under control as of 8:45 PM. No one was reported dead or injured from the accident.

The major blaze and resulting explosion at the Ming Dih Chemical polystyrene factory had previously killed a young 19-year-old volunteer firefighter. 33 other people, including firefighters, were injured. It had also damaged at least 177 households, including 73 houses and 15 cars in the nearby neighborhood.

The body of a 19-year-old firefighter, Korasit “Pause” Raopan, was taken to a temple in Thung Khru for a royal cremation, where a group of his family members and colleagues, along with mourners, had attended as of yesterday evening. He was given widespread praise on social media for his heroic actions fighting the fire, which ultimately cost his young life.

The exact causes behind the fires are still under investigation, according to Bangkok authorities.
