Bangkok –

The Cabinet Committee yesterday, July 13th, has approved the draft Space Affairs Act, granting Thailand to enter a new future of space technology and exploration.

Following his own statement in December, Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation Minister Anek Laothamatas told the Associated Press that the law would bring benefits to the country in a wide range both economically and socially as a foundation for the country’s “New Space Economy” since the aerospace industry has been operating in Thailand with investment from the government, and both Thai and foreign private companies.

He said: “This draft law had been up to date to support the future of Thailand. Because today’s space technology growing rapidly, many space-related activities also occurred that were operated by government sectors, private agencies, universities or even schools with cooperation from agencies in the country and abroad.”

“The Space Affairs Act, therefore, was introduced as an important mechanism for promoting cooperation in space technology and activities between Thailand and the international as well as to build confidence between the countries at the international level.”

The draft Space Affairs Act would be sent for revision by the Council of State and Parliament before being put into effect.
