Phuket –

More than 5,000 vaccinated foreign visitors have participated in the “Phuket Sandbox” project and generated more than 190 million baht since the island reopening, the Phuket Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reported today, July 16th.

TAT Phuket Director Nantasiri Ronnasiri revealed the progress of the Phuket Sandbox project that a satisfied number of 5,473 foreign visitors have gradually arrived in Phuket from 1-14 July. The number of current visitors who spent daily expenditure on the island and stayed for 11 nights would be predicted to generate domestic income at about 190 million baht, according to the TAT forecast.

The trend of foreign visitors to the Phuket Sandbox project is also increasing. By the end of July, about 170,000 nights are already booked and at least 19,000 foreign visitors are expected to visit Phuket. The tourism association forecasted that hotel bookings would be higher in August and September.

“We have to shift our tourism marketing to the so-called ‘City Market’, which is promoting and publicizing to our target groups that Phuket is safe and visitors can travel safely,” the director stated.

Nantasiri also stated that a group of businessmen from Europe and America, including Thai businessmen, had visited the island to negotiate business. It is expected that more businessmen would also select Phuket as their safe place for negotiations.

The TAT additionally reported the total reservations of SHA+ hotels in July-September 2021 have reached 205,883 nights, divided into 174,443 nights in July, 29,197 in August, and 2,243 in September.
