PM Prayut urges national athletes to create fame for Thailand at Olympics TOKYO 2020

22 July 2021: Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has lent his support to Thai athletes and officials representing the Kingdom in the Olympic TOKYO 2020, which starts tomorrow.

Government spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri said PM Prayut wished Thailand’s Olympic participants the best of luck and hoped they would maximize their efforts under these challenging circumstances.

I would like them to achieve their goals. Whether or not they return with a medal, I hope they create fame for our country,” said the PM’s message, according to Anucha.

The PM also urged every Thai athlete to be a role model and inspire youngsters to develop their skills and keep training for their future.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister insisted that Thai athletes strictly follow the public health protocols of the host country, to ensure their safety and set an example for other countries. He also asked the whole nation to lend their support to the athletes.

Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakar will represent the Thai government at Friday’s Opening Ceremony, which will be broadcast live on NBT, Thai PBS and True4U channels.

Thai people want the national athletes to do their best and win medals to make the whole country happy and proud,” the minister said.

Thailand will be the 102nd country in the Parade of Nations. Leading the Thai delegation in the parade will be two flagbearers – sharpshooters Naphaswan Yangpaiboon (women’s air pistol) and Savate Sresthaporn (men’s trap).

Thailand is fielding 41 athletes in 16 disciplines at the Games, which have attracted over 11,000 athletes from more than 200 nations and territories.
