A group of Thai athletes is set to appear as the 102nd country to march in the opening parade ceremony of the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 on July 23rd, as listed in Japanese alphabetical order.
Thana Chaiprasit, Head of the Thai athletes, revealed to the press that most Thai athletes have gradually arrived and stayed at the athletes’ village. A total of 61 athletes and staff are staying at the village, excluding sailing and windsurfer athletes, who are staying at Enoshima Yacht Harbor in Kanagawa Prefecture, 60 kilometers away from Tokyo.
About six athletes from each country are allowed to participate in the opening parade, following the preventive Covid-19 measures. Thailand is listed as the 102nd country, according to the Japanese alphabet ranking, after the Solomon Islands. South Korea will be the 103rd country and the host country, Japan, will march in the last place.
Thana said: “I have informed our athletes about the opening ceremony and really would like them to join as much as possible but it would be all up to them because I understand the situation and many people are still worried about the safety during the coronavirus epidemic. Some of them might want to take some time off to get themselves ready for the next day’s competition. Other athletes have chosen to skip the parade out of concern of contracting Covid-19 which would cause them to be removed from the competition.”
