Nok Air cancels all flights to U-Tapao airport after Rayong is listed in dark-red zone areas in CCSA update yesterday

Thailand –

Nok Air has canceled all its scheduled flights to the U-Tapao airport after Rayong was listed in the maximum and strict controlled areas in the announcement of the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), starting Wednesday, August 3rd.

Last week, the airline opened its ‘urgent’ flights to the airport especially for urgent travel and medical purposes in six provinces during the Covid-19 pandemic, namely Rayong, Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Phuket, and Nakhon Si Thammarat.

However, all arriving and departing flights at U-Tapao Airport had to be canceled from August 3rd onwards after being operated for 10 days, following yesterday’s CCSA announcement of adding Rayong and other 15 provinces in the dark-red zone areas to curb the Covid-19 spread. This is due to domestic travel restrictions being part of the maximum control restrictions.

Meanwhile, some major airlines also canceled their domestic flights throughout August as the government requests to reduce unnecessary traveling during the spread of Covid-19 in Thailand

Bangkok Airways has canceled its domestic flights until at least August 10th while Air Asia has announced a temporary cessation of its business operations throughout the month due to the financial liquidity in the company that has been struggling due to the Covid-19 situation. Thai Smile also announced canceling their domestic flights until at least August 19th.

Thai Airways and Bangkok Airways also canceled their international and domestic flights to Phuket and Samui after the provincial authorities have tightened their health measures for incoming tourists. Despite that, both the Phuket Sandbox and Samui Model Plus tourism campaigns are still ongoing but limit the number of visitors due to the domestic Covid-19 spread in Thailand.
