Thailand discovered a total of 20,920 daily Covid-19 infections with 160 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, marking a new high of infection rates, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced today, August 5th.
The fatalities were 90 men and 70 women from Bangkok (78), Samut Prakan (8), Pathum Thani (8), Nonthaburi (7), Nakhon Sawan (7), Samut Sakhon (6), Pattani (6), Chonburi (6), Rayong (4), Phetchabun (3), Roi Et (3), Kalasin (2), Nakhon Ratchasima (2), Sakhon Nakon (2), Songkhla (1), Phuket (1), Surat Thani (1), Nakhon Panom (1), Buriram (1), Si Saket (1), Nong Bua Lampu (1), Udon Thani (1), Ubon Ratchathani (1), Chainat (1), Uthai Thani (1), Chanthaburi (1), Chachoengsao (1), Ratchaburi (1), and Sa Kaeo (1). The age range was between 12 and 95 years old.
Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, kidney disease, obesity, heart disease, lung disease, and stroke. Three of the fatalities were bedridden patients and two were pregnant.
Of the new cases, 17,312 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 3,338 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 262 were from prisons, and the remaining 8 were imported cases.
Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest numbers of patients were reported in Bangkok with 4,140, followed by Samut Prakan with 1,326, Chonburi with 1,312, Samut Sakhon with 1,279, Nonthaburi with 754, and Nakhon Ratchasima with 565.
A total number of 383,607 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 290,616 people had received their first shot and 92,991 people had received their second shots.
As of today, 17,926 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 693,305 cases with 473,732 recoveries and a total of 5,663 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
