Suspect who allegedly murdered Swiss tourist in Phuket Sandbox arrested

Police have confirmed that a suspect who has allegedly murdered a female Swiss tourist taking part in the Phuket Sandbox has been arrested today.

Previously, Phuket police from the Wichit Police station confirmed on August 5th, 2021, that a foreign female tourist believed to be a Swiss national in her 50’s and confirmed as a Phuket Sandbox tourist, was found dead at the Ton Ao Yon waterfall in Wichit, Phuket.

Phuket governor and related provincial authorities expressed their condolences in the case of a female tourist from Switzerland found dead near the Ton Ao Yon Waterfall of Phuket island yesterday, August 5th.

The Royal Thai Police Commissioner General Suwat Jangyodsuk today (August 7th) revealed to the press in Bangkok that they have arrested a prime suspect but have not officially revealed any other details, for instance, if the suspect is a Thai or foreigner. TPN media notes that conflicting information has been given on a variety of media sources this afternoon, especially around the nationality of the suspect.

However, local sources are now reporting that the suspect is Thai, not foreign, and lives not far from the waterfall, and is now at the Wichit Police Station for questioning.

Meanwhile, the CDC Police (Crime Suppression Division) reported the man’s name as ‘Teerawat’, believed to be 27 years old. This statement was made on their official Facebook page just shortly ago. A Thai identification card seen by TPN media appeared to confirm this information.
