Thailand added to US CDC’s highest Covid-19 level in its traveling recommendation list, urging visitors to avoid traveling

National –

The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) yesterday, August 9th, warned against traveling to Thailand, Israel, France, Iceland, and several other countries due to a rising number of Covid-19 infections.

The nations were added to the organization’s highest “Level 4: Very High” Covid-19 level, meaning that travelers should avoid travel to these destinations. They should be fully vaccinated before travel if they must travel to these destinations.

The CDC also raised alert levels to “Level 3: High” for Austria, Croatia, El Salvador, Azerbaijan, Guam, Kenya, and Jamaica. Unvaccinated travelers should avoid nonessential travel to those countries, according to their statement.

As for Thailand, the country was recently moved up from the “Level 3: COVID-19 High” level to the “Level 4: Very High” in the CDC’s Travel Recommendations List.

Thailand is currently facing nearly 20,000 Covid-19 daily infections in the past month due to a major Covid-19 outbreak from several clusters found in local communities and construction workers’ campsites, particularly in Bangkok and its vicinity. As of today, the number has reached as high as 19,843 infections with 235 fatalities.

Australia and Germany have also upgraded travel warnings for Thailand which can cause a negative impact on some insurance policies. Americans are one of the top categories of visitors to Phuket as part of the Phuket Sandbox program according to Thai authorities and this move could affect visitors to the island due to insurance implications.
