Total of 26,400 vaccinated tourists reported visiting Phuket Sandbox project since it first launched in July, TAT reveals

Phuket –

A total of 26,400 fully vaccinated tourists from 62 vaccinated countries have been visiting Phuket in the past two months since the launch of the “Phuket Sandbox” in July, Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Yuthasak Supasorn revealed Wednesday, September 1st.

According to the TAT record, Phuket has welcomed 26,400 vaccinated tourists from July 1st to August 31st. Of that, 83 (as of September 1st) were found positive with Covid-19 and 26,317 people were not. ( 0.32 percent)

Vaccinated tourists from the United States were ranked the number one visitors to the island from foreign countries at 3,438 people, followed by the United Kingdom with 3,389, Israel with 2,729, Germany with 2,072, France with 2,050, the United Arab Emirates with 838, Switzerland with 559, the Netherlands with 536, Australia with 452, and China with 417. An additional 3,335 visitors were Thais.

The Governor stated that the initial goal of welcoming at least 100,000 tourists to the island by the third quarter (July – September) may not be possible as the current number of incoming visitors is only 26,400.

This is, according to the TAT Governor, possibly due to the worsening Covid-19 infection rates in Thailand and the stricter preventive regulations upon traveling in and out of Phuket island. Furthermore, the nation has been currently considered as a high-risk country in the United States and other European countries and was recently deemed a “red” country by the UK, meaning that a UK national would have to conduct a mandatory quarantine, financed by themselves at a government hotel, upon returning.

“Despite the Covid-19 domestic situation, the Phuket Sandbox project has achieved good and satisfactory feedback as it can reassure both Thais and foreign tourists to come to visit the island with a relatively low infection rate of only 0.32 percent compared to the total number of tourists entering the project. And most of them were detected for the first time at Phuket Airport,” the governor stated.

TAT also surveyed tourists’ satisfaction with the Phuket Sandbox project during their stay, revealing that 80 percent of the visitors were most satisfied with the hospitality of Phuket residents and 85 percent were most satisfied with the quality and service of SHA+ hotels and accommodation.

The top 5 stories of travelers most satisfied are 1.) Quality of SHA+ shuttle service at Phuket Airport, 2.) Reservation of SHA+ shuttle service at the airport, 3.) SHA+ accommodation, 4.) Overall services at Phuket Airport and 5.) Health screening upon arrival.
