Bangkok –

The Cabinet Committee this afternoon, September 7th, has approved a 4,000 million-baht budget for another purchase of 12 million doses of Sinovac Covid-19 vaccinations.

Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, the newly-appointed government spokesperson, revealed that the government has approved a total budget of 4,254.36 million baht for the purchase of an additional 12 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine to be used in the immunity boost and the cross-formula method.

They will be prioritized for four target groups; patients with 7 underlying diseases, elderly aged over 60, medical officials/frontliners/public officials who are working in high-risk environments, and the general public in Thailand.

The vaccines will be arriving in Thailand around September – October. Some of them will be used for the cross-formula vaccine injection between Sinovac and AstraZeneca, according to the spokesperson.

Thanakorn said: “The cross-formula vaccination between Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines can shorten the duration of injections and boost immunity according to research. It will also help reduce morbidity and mortality rates as well as the government costs for treating Covid-19 patients while speeding the recovery of domestic economy and society in general.”
