Phuket, Sattahip , Chonburi, Thailand –
Three wanted Russian suspects who have allegedly attacked a Swiss national before stealing a painting worth 50 million baht in Sattahip have been arrested in Phuket. A fourth wanted Russian suspect has already left Thailand.
Major General Panchana Nutchanart of the Phuket Immigration Office told TPN media, “The Na Jomtien Police in Sattahip originally informed us about the four Russian suspects.”
“They are being accused of attacking a Swiss national before stealing a painting worth 50 million baht in Na Jomtien, Sattahip,” Panchana stated.
“The trio had previously been arrested and were bailed out, however, did not follow the conditions of their bail and fled to Phuket.” The Major General explained.
“This morning (September 8th) we have finally arrested Mr. Olex Tarakhnov, 51, Mr. Maxim Sukharev, 33, and Ms. Alena Zakharova, 33. They lived at housing estates in Koh Kaew, Phuket City.” Panchana added.
Mr. Olex and Ms. Alena entered Thailand with a 60-day tourist visa in August 2019 while Mr. Maxim entered Thailand with ผผ.30 visa (visa on arrival) in February of last year. A fourth suspect, Mr. Alex Sie, who entered Thailand with 60 days tourist visa in May of this year has already left Thailand, according to statements from the Major General. All were on overstay. TPN media notes it was not immediately clear why the group when previously arrested were not charged for the overstay situation as well.
“All three suspects have denied the accusations made against them. They are being taken back to the Na Jomtien Police Station for further investigation and remain in police custody.” Panchana concluded.
The details of the original alleged crime were scarce, notes TPN media, and further developments to this case will be made in updated articles.
