Thai Public Health Ministry to propose quarantine period reduction to 7 days for vaccinated visitors

National –

The National Communicable Disease Committee planned to propose the lowering of the mandatory quarantine period for fully vaccinated tourists to 7-10-14 days to the CCSA, the director-general of the Department of Disease Control (DDC) revealed today, September 23rd.

Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong told reporters this afternoon that the reduction of the quarantine days for those who enter Thailand by land, sea, air will be applied to the same standard regardless of nationality.

The reduction to 7, 10, and 14 days will be implemented under conditions as follows:

  • The 7-day quarantine will be applied among the group of tourists traveling by land, sea, or air who have received two doses of Covid-19 vaccines and presented the vaccination documents. They would have to go through RT-PCR tests on Day 0 and Day 7 of the quarantine.
  • The 10-day quarantine will be applied for air travelers who do not have a certificate of vaccination. The RT-PCR tests will be conducted on day 0 and day 10.
  • The 14-day quarantine will be applied among people traveling from land or natural routes or people with incomplete vaccination documents. Two RT-PCR tests are required on Day 0 and Day 14.

The Director-General said that the DDC will propose the measure to the Center for Covi-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) for further consideration as a part of the latest Covid-19 preventive measures next Monday, September 27th.

TPN media notes that at this time this is only a proposal, but being that it has the backing of the DDC it has a significant chance of being approved by the CCSA on Monday. It is unclear exactly when the proposal, if approved, would go into effect. It is also unclear what effect this would have on “Sandbox programs” that allow vaccinated foreign visitors to enter the country without quarantine but have to stay in certain areas for fourteen days. That will be clarified by the CCSA at their major assembly on September 27th.
